It was a windy morning, but there were a few surfers out in the lineup taking on the choppy thigh-high swell. A dozen or so were surfing today, only 4 surfers and a SUP surfer stood out in the pack. Even on a mediocre day this shows that even a bad surf day is always better than the days that you didn’t even get wet.

A beach walker was carrying a portable radio and playing some Bee Gees. At first I was offended by the loud music in public, but he stopped to chat about what I was doing. He was a really great person. Show how first impressions can be very wrong at times. Take a minute to meet a new person. It might change your day for the better.

To all of you that were surfing, it looked like you were having a blast. I was still recovering from shoulder surgery, so taking pictures was a blessing in disguise. As I very much wished I was in the water with the rest of you. Thanks for keeping me stoked while I couldn’t be out there. Mahalo!

Candid surf session photography

I took 6 pictures of the SUP surfer and 18 of the longboarder. The rising sun made it hard to see who were surfing but I was still able to tell some of you rippers apart.

About Candid Surf Sessions

For surf sessions, I never mention the exact location of surf spots. The date and city should be enough to give you a hint of where I was shooting. If you were there, you know where I was. This definitely isn’t blowing up your secret spots. I would never do that with my candid surf session photography. You can also see random action sports photographs on Instagram.
